[ but castiel has never taken her teasing him, especially about the things he's not very good at, well. he's so easy to poke and prod and get a rise out of. and, sometimes, faith enjoys doing it; other times, she wishes he was harder, less likely to chase after something in red as if he were a bull. he's so damn sensitive; she wonders if it's an angel thing. ]
[ faith sighs, though. castiel is exhausting in the best sort of way. he's not as exhausting as andrew and his stories, or buffy and her need to have her ass kicked to her in a way that asserts her dominance and superiority. he's exhausting because he's sometimes like a child; she's always treated him as though he knows best, because he always has, but it's the minor things, like not knowing how to work a clock or the microwave or anything else that she takes for granted, that she finds herself getting a little caught up in. she doesn't have time for it. she never has time for anything. she can't live, she can't be, she has to run and fight and slay. castiel is only exhausting because he reminds her of the things she's missing out on; those things people take for granted. ]
You can't learn how to drive a car by reading, Cas. You gotta do it.
[ she ignores his question. they're familiar to a point where faith really doesn't give a shit anymore. who cares if he sees her half-dressed? who cares if he walks in on her in the shower? while he needs to learn how to knock and read social cues, it's gotten to a point where faith likes it when someone intrudes on her. it reminds her that she's seen, that she's here, and that she's not exactly alone. ]

She doesn't boot him immediately so he moves forward into the bathroom. He grabs the wooden chair that's been put in front of the mirror and turns it to face her. He tries not to place it close because while the tub was high and could protect her from a certain angle that wasn't always the case. It's not hard to notice that at times his body has the tendency to betray him when he's around women. It did so as an angel, but he had a certain amount of control over it at that part. He could stop certain things from happening most of the time. Now he was a fish out of water. Human sexuality or bodies kind of were of no importance once upon a time. Things are different now. ] Buffy said if I drove her car she'd turn all my white shirts pink again. I felt it best not to upset her. I thought reading would help her trust me more.
[ Dawn laughed and Xander just shook his head when she told him that. He liked Buffy well enough, but he knew that it was unwise to rattle her cage in that respect. Willow had made a comment about how Buffy wasn't even a good driver in an attempt to make Castiel feel better. He did appreciate the sentiment in the end. ] If I can't assist you in normal ways I'd like to be able to help in a new way. Driving the car seemed like the best option. [ It's sadder than it sounds. You're looking a holy warrior of God. He's a man that's been in wars since he was created and he's been reduced to driving the car. ]

[ castiel's a fish out of water. and while faith's not the best guide in the world, she's determined to ensure that he's okay. he's got to survive. while he hasn't exactly done his best in ensuring she does, he believed in her when no one else would, when no one else even thought to put such faith in her, and now it's time for a little payback. faith has every plan in the world to track down the sons of bitches who tore his wings from his back and shove them down their throats with a nice little five by five go fuck yourself. ]
[ but she doubts that that will get a smile on his face. he always seemed to take faith's humour in good stride, but one that always bore a quizzical brow. ] Like I said, you can't learn to drive from a book. [ he's not getting it. he doesn't need a book to learn how to drive. he's got one of the best damn drivers sitting in a tub right in front of him. she even gestures to herself, bottle clanging against the edge of the bath. ] I'm a good teacher.
[ she'll take the heart attack. castiel behind the wheel would kill somebody before he even started the engine. but he's a friend and he's family and there's no way in hell she's not going to give him as many of the tools she can while they're in this life together. ]

And she had.
He's unsure of her driving capabilities. Her fighting tends to be reckless and once upon a time that was how she lived her life. Reckless. He assumes that's how her driving style is as well. Apparently though according to Willow there wasn't anyone in this house that was a worse driver than Buffy. ] You'll teach me how to drive? [ There are things he does know how to do. The television is easy. He's known how to do that even as an angel. He struggled with the microwave at first, but that was because certain buttons needed to be pushed and he didn't understand why you couldn't skip steps. It seemed stupid and counterproductive. He would do as he needed to though. No one dared to try to teach him the computer yet. Willow was gearing up for that little tutorial. ]
I'd like that. [ Even if she was a bad driver it probably wouldn't bother Castiel. If he trusted anyone to teach him something as dangerous as driving it was most definitely Faith. She was his best friend. Family. Probably other things if any interactions with the demons from the past were to be believed. The angel that's in love with you. He's your boyfriend. Wheres the angel, boyfriend? Even Dawn makes casual quips like that, but Castiel chose not to read too much into them.
Cas leans down and pulls the cardboard container holding five beers closer to his feet. The first one is currently being drained by Faith in the tub. He plucks one from the case and lifts it to twist off the top. He's not much of a drinker by nature, but he's learned to do so around Faith. Plus as a human they have a much stronger potency than he remembers. He takes a long sip and swallows. ]

[ sometimes, she wonders how someone as righteous and holy and good like castiel got stuck with someone so lost and damaged and bad like her. why wasn't he passed off to buffy? she's the good one, the good slayer. buffy would've had his wings back by now. everything she touched turned into gold; the slayer who changed the way their destiny ran. the girl who could do anything and it'd be done right. faith's always been jealous of how people flock to buffy, of how she's the one with the army, of how she's the one who got the scythe and, really, even though it belongs to the slayer in general, it's buffy's. she wants everything buffy has, but there's one thing summers will never ever have over her. ]
[ and that's the assbutt sitting beside her in a chair, sipping a beer like an old lady. ]
[ all that pent up emotion she hasn't quite gotten closure for is exactly why she's bruised and beaten and trying to drink herself under the soapy bubbles of this tub. faith can't quite fix what has broken castiel. she can't reunite him with his own family of human idiots. the winchesters are like a ghosts; she can't quite get her hands on them, despite how fast she runs after them and how tight she tries to grip them. they've always moved on by the time she gets to a town, in secret, of course. castiel can't know what she's trying to do for him. it'll ruin her bad girl cred. ]
[ castiel has a greater purpose, and, yet, here he is, sitting in a bathroom, with her, of all people. she really thinks there's a joke in there somewhere. ]
We'll start tonight. [ even though she really is in no state of mind, drunk or sober, to teach anyone how to drive a vehicle and avoid the poles. ] Night driving at it's finest. Gotta start learning somewhere.
