[ allison's lying back on her bed, head on her pillows, as she tries not to think of all the work she needs to catch up on. her dad is okay. her dad is okay. and lydia — ]

[ — she's as okay as she's ever going to be. while allison would otherwise find this conversation a little tiresome, she's finding it to be the complete opposite. talking of shirts and assignments rather than werewolves and nemetons … allison hasn't felt seventeen in months. she's felt twice her age, more tired than she should, and she's forgotten that there's more to life than death. ]

[ she smiles before pulling herself up into a sitting position. her hair is a little messed up, but she doesn't pay it any mind. ]

Yeah. I don't think I've been this okay since … [ allison glances to the side, pursing her lips. ] I can't even remember. It's like we've been running for months and now we've finally just stopped.

[ she shuffles on the bed. glancing at lydia, she pushes her hair back so it doesn't cover her eyes. ] And you're … something. Are you okay?

[ leaning back on both her hands, lydia kicks up her legs, looking what she hopes isn't a scuff on her boot. but then, sometime during the conversation, she toes off her shoes and pulls her feet up onto the bed, sitting up closer beside allison.

lydia was fine, for the most part. she definitely hadn't been through the ringer like allison, stiles and scott had; that's mostly why she steers the conversation in that direction, knowing better than anyone how easy it is to cover up on the outside. ]

Yeah, apparently a banshee. Not entirely sure what that means just yet, but ... [ she purses her lips, shrugging and lifting a hand like welp. it's going to take some research. ] What's one more supernatural thing in Beacon Hills?

[ she still considers herself human, mind you. ]

How about what Deaton said though? I mean, do you feel that darkness?

[ saying it out loud sounds ridiculous, like allison might flip a switch and turn into some villain. ]

[ allison still considers lydia human. team human is starting to dwindle in numbers — and they need lydia. allison needs her. ]

I feel more inclined not to do my homework. [ allison grins slightly, lifting a shoulder. it's not what lydia means, but the way allison responds — deflection — is how she's been coping with that little tidbit of information. she doesn't regret it at all, sacrificing a part of herself to ensure her father's safety. but she sometimes wonders at what cost? will her father ever be able to forgive her for it? will she? allison fears resentment, and she does not want to begin resenting her father as she had, once, with scott. ]

I feel like me. Nothing's changed. [ but she does not sound like she believes it, not one hundred percent. ]

[ nothing has changed ... except for the placement of her knife. it's moved from underneath her pillow into a box by her closet. there's a temptation that lingers within her that she's not quite sure if it's new, from this darkness, or if it's been there since the moment she let her anger cloud her judgement after her mother's death. ]

[ lately lydia isn't so sure what she contributes to "the pack" other than being a human compass for dead bodies, but now she knows she wants to help and be needed, even if it just means being there for allison. though these days she's been questioning that a little, you know, with the whole isaac thing. deaton really made them rethink all their relationships, didn't he?

but here and now, she laughs and feels like this is a step back in the right direction for them. ]

The horror. Soon your laziness will infect us all. [ she's glad they can joke about it; they would probably go insane otherwise. ] But good.

[ i'm relieved being the subtext of that last statement. of course it doesn't mean she completely buys the 'i'm fine' act. but it does mean she will be keeping a close eye on her friend. ]

Sooo, [ she tips her head, curls falling over her shoulder. ] if nothing's changed, then what about Isaac?

[ the other big bomb dropped on them that they had yet to talk about. lydia stepped forward for allison, but it was isaac who was the one with a strong emotional connection, according to whatever emissary logic (and the other surprising twist was that it was the case for her and stiles). ]
